Soil organic carbon stock capacity in karst dolines under different land uses

چکیده

The soil organic carbon (SOC) was determined in soils of enclosed karst depressions (dolines) (NW Dinaric Mts.) to define their potential for sequestration. SOC measured the forest, succession (scrubland), and grassland plots at bottom dolines four depths (0–40 cm) 40 cm layer stock calculated. We demonstrated that prevailing fine fractions, C/N ratio thickness play a positive role storage capacity regardless land use type. Grasslands have lowest (106 t/ha/40 cm), while highest is (130 cm). last are covered by shrub communities dominated Prunus spinosa, forming dense communities, typical abandoned croplands or meadows been impacted high levels nutrients during cultivation phase. At this stage, there no additional nutrient input studied plots, which lowers content increases ratio. where 116 cm. Given trend towards abandonment agricultural Kras Plateau (SW Slovenia), we can expect more overgrowth dolines, thus an increase stocks stabilization forest soils. In contrary, noticed alarming decrease grasslands urban land. 2020 12,538 lower than 2002. Although showed storage, contribution total very important. Since lack studies on doline soils, our research great importance novelty gives important background further landscapes worldwide.

The Effect of Land use and Soil Erosion on Soil Organic Carbon and Nitrogen Stock

Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a principal component in soil quality assessment. Knowledge of SOC and total nitrogen (TN) stocks are important keys to understand the role of SOC in the global carbon cycle and, as a result, in the mitigation of global greenhouse effects. SOC and TN stocks are functions of the SOC concentration and the bulk density of the soil that are prone to changes, influe...

Soil Respiration under Different Land Uses in Eastern China

Land-use change has a crucial influence on soil respiration, which further affects soil nutrient availability and carbon stock. We monitored soil respiration rates under different land-use types (tea gardens with three production levels, adjacent woodland, and a vegetable field) in Eastern China at weekly intervals over a year using the dynamic closed chamber method. The relationship between so...

Soil aggregate mediates the impacts of land uses on organic carbon, total nitrogen, and microbial activity in a Karst ecosystem

Understanding the effect of land use on soil carbon, nitrogen, and microbial activity associated with aggregates is critical for thorough comprehension of the C and N dynamics of karst landscapes/ecosystems. We monitored soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), microbial biomass carbon (MBC), and Cmic: Corg ratio in large macro- (>2 mm), small macro- (0.25-2 mm), and micro- (0.053-0.25 m...
